ADMISSION

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International Students

In addition to the general application requirements, international students must submit the following items:

1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Results: Applicants who are not native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL results. Please see the application instructions for the specific TOEFL requirements of your intended program.

International students should register to take the exam on the earliest date possible. Visit the TOEFL site for more information.

Applicants also have the option of enrolling in the New School English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Associate in Applied Science (AAS) applicants must complete ESL Level 5, and bachelor’s and master’s applicants must complete ESL Level 6. Visit the ESL website for more information.

2. International Transcripts: All applicants with international transcripts are required to submit an original transcript from each institution attended along with a certified English language translation. Applicants who would like to transfer academic credits earned at non-U.S. institutions are also required to have their transcripts evaluated by World Education Services (WES) [link (www.wes.org)], our preferred provider, or by another member of the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES). A course-by-course evaluation report must be prepared for each transcript. Please start the evaluation process as early as possible, including the submission of all required documents to WES (or another provider), in order to ensure the timely completion of the evaluation report. Instruct the provider to send the report to

Parsons The New School for Design
Office of Admission
72 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10011

If applying online, search for “New School Parsons" when requesting our institution.

If your provider is unable to send the evaluation report directly to the school, please obtain a copy and send it to Parsons, along with a Materials Cover Sheet (Adobe PDF).

3. Visas: International students accepted to degree programs at Parsons will receive I-20 application materials in the Accepted Student Packet. These applications must be completed and submitted to Parsons with the required financial documents and affidavits of support. Students are eligible for an I-20 only if they are enrolled in a full-time degree program.

4. English course placement test: Upon admittance, all undergraduate non-native English speaking students will be required to take the English course placement test before beginning their studies at Parsons. Previous English course work, SAT and/or TOEFL scores do not exempt non-native English speaking students from the English course placement test requirement. Administered during Orientation Week each semester, the test determines whether students will be required to take English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, and whether any English course transfer credits will be applied toward the first-year writing course requirement.
